Another Spring-ish Post

Another Spring-ish Post

I am surrounded by speculation that spring is thisclose! Not long now! Just around the corner! It depends on whether you consider an entire city street block the size of the corner in question.

Seriously, don’t pack your picnic yet. Unless you are packing a tent to pitch over the top of your checkered blanket, you will probably get very wet and very cold.

Spring is coming. Oh, yes. It will get here eventually, but don’t make the same mistake I did when I first lived here and rush it because then it just gets really depressing.

Last year, one of my children’s cousins had her early May birthday party in her backyard. The sun shone, we cooked out. Presents were opened under a tree in mid-70-degree weather. It was idyllic. Then Hunk had HIS birthday party the following weekend and we were relegated inside on a very cold, very rainy weekday afternoon. Did I mention this was in MAY?

One thing you need to get straight about NNY is that the journey to spring is much longer than anybody likes. I’m of the mindset that it is not even worth getting your hopes up as to WHEN the temperatures will remain stable. What you can focus on is getting the heck out of the house when the weather is decent for those precious few days in March-May. For the next couple of months, any extra warmth should be hoarded and – if possible – documented and stored. I also recommend grilling out whenever possible.

Yes, these photos were taken in March. No, they were not taken outside.

The good news is – the days are getting longer, so even if you do wake up to snow in the morning, you can at least see it falling.

And I highly recommend buying the cutest pair of rain boots and raincoat you can find so you can at least look forward to wearing them on rainy, yucky days. Plus, shopping is an indoor activity. BONUS – everything except swimsuits are on sale right now. And unless you are one of those lucky March snowbirds living it up in Florida as you read this, you probably don’t even need a bathing suit!

I found my rain boots yesterday at TJ Maxx:

I’ve only worn them once, but it sure brightened my day to put them on!
